Christmas Wish List

When I ran in high school years ago we had a wish list for our spring track program. I am attempting to do the same thing for AG's program. This list will be updated periodically. I will have around 100 athletes this spring. They need shoes mostly. If you have not quite worn out shoes, they could use them. We also have a need for certain equipment that would be donated to our program. We cannot accept any kind of cash donation.

The AG track team needs replacement spikes, 1/4 in diamond, no Xmas Trees.

Sock caps- any number appreciated. color not important.

Socks-any color needed.

Any cold weather gear, any size

2 starting blocks, will work with any type or kind

any kind or type of used running shoe.

shoe inserts, new only

two banners, unmarked, pepsi or coke or anything similar will do.

They may be dropped off at Ayden-Grifton High School directed to me, Jeff Dufour, or you can email or comment me and I can arrange for pickup since I live in Greenville. If you have any questions about anything our team may need, please contact me directly.

Thank you and God Bless you and your family during this Christmas season. Coach D.

New uniforms for 2008

As of the 2008 season, all athletes will be required to buy their own form fitted uniform that they will be responsible for. The approximate cost is still being worked out but will be somewhere in the range of $40.00. You may also purchase discount shoes, t-shirts, and sweatgear. The prototypes have already been ordered and should be in over the holidays. The only thing missing on the picture is our AG logo which will go in the center. You will be able to order yours after our first meeting of the year in January. You can get a quick peek now and see the details for each uniform. You will also be able to keep the same uniform year after year.

Alan Webb at Prefontaine Classic

Three-time U.S. 1,500m champion Alan Webb on Saturday broke the American record in the mile, clocking 3:46.91 at the Atletiek Vlaanderenmeet in Brasschaa, Belgium. The mark breaks the record of 3:47.69 set by National Track & Field Hall of Famer Steve Scott in 1982 and makes Webb the eighth-fastest man in history, behind Hicham El Guerrouj, Noah Ngeny, Noureddine Morceli, Steve Cram, Daniel Komen, Venuste Niyongabo and Said Aouita.

Webb's agent, Ray Flynn, reports unofficial quarter-mile splits for Webb during the race as 56.1, 57.4, 56.8 and 56.2.

Held on a 6-lane track, Saturday's race is part of a career-best year for Webb. In February, he won his first U.S. indoor title in the mile before going on a tear during the outdoor season. On April 28, he ran 3:51.71 to break Scott's mile record at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. On June 24 in Indianapolis, he ran 3:34.82 in the 1,500 to break Scott's meet record at the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships, where Webb won his third career national title.

The biggest win of Webb's career came July 6 in Paris, when he ran a personal-best 1,500m time of 3:30.54, the fastest time in the world in 2007. As recently as Monday, Webb set a new personal best in the 800 meters, running 1:45.80 in Malmo, Sweden.

Steve Scott wasn't caught by surprise when he learned of the record from one of the athletes he coaches.

"I want to personally congratulate Alan," Scott said. "I anticipated it being broken. After his 1:45 and his 3:30, you knew he was capable of it. It was just a matter of having the right pace and conditions. Even if conditions weren't perfect, he's so strong, I knew he could do it. I had a prediction of 3:46.5 for him.

"I'm happy that it was Alan who broke it, and I believe at the end of the day, when all is said and done, that people will consider him the greatest distance runner America has ever had. He has such range, he's so young and he's accomplished so much. I have nothing to be ashamed of, losing the record to him. "

2-Time Conference Meet Champs

CLARIFICATION

In Thursday's Prep Roundup, Ayden-Grifton's boys' track and field team should have been credited with winning the Carolina 1-A Conference meet, not the Carolina Conference championship. The league decides a conference champion based on regular-season standings and not the conference meet. Rosewood won the Carolina title.

Message from Coach Lamken to the team

Jeff,
How are you doing? It was so nice to hear from you. Things have been pretty busy around here-we are in the process of buying a house and I recently found out that I have a permanent position here in Hampton City Schools. And what about you? Where are you going to be teaching next year? I can't believe that track season is here-the year has gone by so fast. I plan on making a couple of meets-and hopefully STATE!!!! Please tell Chelsea and Sharon that Alex and I say 'hello'. Is Chelsea back at Ayden-Grifton? I'm sure she will be a great hurdler-I don't think I could watch though-I can't stand watching hurdlers-it makes me nervous!!! Especially when cute little Chelsea is jumping over them! The blog looks great-I like being able to see what the kids are doing in the off-season. Please tell the kids and Janarde that I look forward to seeing them and ALL of them better be out for track-no exceptions!
Please keep me posted on new developments.
Love and Miss ya,
Brooke

Any questions see either Coach Cannon or Coach Wooten before the season starts. Tryouts will begin promptly at 4 pm and will end at 530 pm. Plan on being there and being on time. Uniform will be shorts, shirt and a pair of shoes that you can run in. If it is cold, please wear something warm. We will meet on the track...I am looking forward to this season. See you soon.
